Koskovich-Brady Addition
The Client wanted an all weather room from which they could enjoy views of the adjoining lake. Studio ALA created a glazed container on a masonry foundation to maximize the views. Large overhangs and a sunshade were added to minimize heat gain, and keep the room comfortable.
The roofline of the addition closely mimics the character of the original house. A steel frame supports the roof. Aluminum storefronts with operable partitions fill the space between the steel columns to maximize the additions's connection with the exterior surroundings. The large overhangs, particularly on the South and West side of the building, allow the space to stay open to fresh air even during inclement weather.
A cantilevered deck was added to replace the original deck. The use of a cantilever protects the roots of near-by trees.
The masonry base of the addition can be used as a garage or storage space.
