Spruill Oaks Regional Library

This single-story 25,000 sq. ft. facility is the prototype for future regional libraries. Its design allows for flexibility of the interior layout and for modular expansion along the building's longitudinal axis. The layout of the library, with its angled book stack arrangement,is such that, for security of patrons and staff, the librarians are able to monitor activity within the library from all staff locations.
Clerestory windows band the perimeter of the library providing a comfortable openness to the stacks, reading areas and work spaces, while deep roof overhangs keep direct sunlight off the collections.
The library houses the general collection, periodicals, reference collection, childrens' collection, reading areas, story hour area and a meeting room as well as staff and office areas.
The building is a steel frame structure with metal stud infill walls, a brick veneer and metal roof.
